About Latta

Owen Latta is a passionate Australian winemaker with a love for crafting wines that tell a story. Growing up in a winemaking family, Owen’s connection to wine started early. At just 15, he made his first Pinot Noir in his dad’s winery, Eastern Peake, in Coghills Creek, Victoria.

Now, in 2025, Owen’s celebrating his 27th vintage—somewhat disbeliving how time has flown by. He’s behind two main labels:

  • Eastern Peake: This one’s all about single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, made with fruit from the family’s estate along with three vineyards under his management in Coghills Creek. Owen’s all about organic farming and sustainable practices here, getting hard work done in the vineyard and not mucking around in the winery.
  • Latta Vino: Launched in 2013, this label gives Owen the freedom to experiment with different grape varieties and produce wines that reflect the unique terroir of Western and Central Victoria. Here, Owen keeps things as natural as possible, often using low or no sulfur.

Over the years, Owen’s work has earned some recognition, like the Gourmet Traveller Wine Young Winemaker of the Year award in 2018. But, he’s just as passionate about sustainable farming and improving soil health, always aiming to make a positive impact in the vineyard.

Through Eastern Peake and Latta Vino, Owen continues to craft wines that tell a story of place and time often pushing the boundaries with his innovative approach.
